Learning Center and lessons

Joe’s teaching philosophy is simple and is applied to every lesson:  Coaching combined with teaching.  Coaching is the act of training an athlete and teaching is the ability to impart knowledge. Golf is a body/mind game, testing players’ abilities to interpret course conditions, handle emotions and execute swings under pressure.  Joe helps players find their true swing and best game for life in a personal and interactive process of learning and understanding.

Player assessment analysis:

  • Physically – Every golfer has different strengths and weaknesses, ranges of motion and limitations.  This means that there is no single method, no single swing theory that could apply to all golfers.  Joe will work with you to get the most out of your game.  Furthermore, Joe will create a program of strength, endurance and stretching exercises that is specifically designed for the individual.  No two players are exactly alike, and this is why no one swing style is applicable to all golfers.
  • Cognitively – Players learn differently!  Some will learn quickly when they see themselves swing.  That is why a camera and mirror are never far from Joe’s lesson tee.   Others are more kinesthetic or “feel” driven, making changes effectively when they are physically put in proper positions or use a training aid correctly.  Very few are auditory learners, but some people need to simply hear what is right and wrong with their games.  By using powerful word imagery, these golfers can make changes to improve.  Some golfers are a combination of these styles, and having an instructor who knows what kind of learner you are is vital to receiving help that will improve your game.  What kind of learner are you?  Joe’s students take a brief online test, the Mental Golf Workshop Profile before starting the lesson schedule.  Then, students and instructor learn together the players’ Golf Temperament as it relates to:
    • Pre-Round Preparation,
    • Mental Tendencies When Playing Shots
    • Course Management
    • Learning Styles When Working with Instructors
    • Mental Tendencies toward Golf Fitness.

These discoveries expedite learning, proper coaching and developing your golf skills.

  • Desired Goals – Setting goals let’s us know if we are improving.  It also aids in creating a timeline.  Then, achievable milestones can be established along the way.  Just like declaring a major in college where students take required courses to obtain their degree, so must we establish a step by step path to your golf goals.

By knowing your Physical Abilities, Learning Styles & Goals, Joe is able to create an easy, fun and comfortable learning environment for golf.
